24 years on

... and as we remember one life we prepare ourselves for another.

still missed

Oh my giddy God

Another landmark moment. Tonight we started printing out the thesis, paving the way for the pitter patter of little feet without the need for footnotes. Bottle feeds without printer feeds.

Hooray!

Milking the moment

Yesterday was a landmark day. Michelle was offered a seat on the tram for the first time. Clearly from now she should 'milk' moments such as this as much as possible...

How to get a free home makeover

We've decided to apply to one of those home improvement shows on the telly. You know, the ones where they redo your house for you. The programme we're watching has some special needs kid, probably autistic, being given a new room with all sorts of crap he apparently likes.

Michelle said we'd never get on the show because they give it to people who really need it, like disadvantaged or whatever.

So I said: "Yes we could, we could just say you're dyspraxic, I'm neurotic and the kid is, uh... uh... "
"Exotic," Michelle said.

No words needed...

... except to say that not being able to send them to Mum really hurt.

Been a while...

Okay so it's been a while. But I've had other things on my mind. Like saying goodbye to my mother, the bug's bobba.

Two nights left in South Africa... on Skype with the bug's mother and the first baby book arrived from friend Françoise Davoine...

During said discussion the book spoke about enlarged breasts and swollen, darkening areolas. At which point I mentioned a screengrab I'd taken on the last Skype chat, of Michelle exposing a breast. This was the file I sent:

Deeply offensive? Possibly. Deeply funny? Absolutely.

In the course of all this sadness I discovered/was reminded that my mother's Hebrew name was Leah, which will be incorporated in some way into the future nomenclature.

Ned got involved in the naming-of-parts for the first time... a battle ensues. His suggestion of Aura is actually not a bad one. But seemed a bit, how shall I put it...

Still sinking in

Okay, threw a wobbly yesterday. Joy and calm gave way to shock as the hours wore on. More of the joy and calm coming back. Another note on that portrait of Michelle from Saturday - something is different in there. She looks like a Woman: beautiful, composed, fulfilled. Quite something. And all this for something the size of one of these sesame seeds:

We've been discussing names of course. But generally sesame seeds aren't individually named...

Sport happenings from the day.

The first film

A Prediction

Two Lines

Two little lines. That was all it took. And suddenly everything is clearer, everything is calmer. And everything feels slightly more in focus, like the oculist finally got your prescription right. Or maybe it's all a bit hyperreal, like the moment you start dreaming. Or at least the moment you realise you're asleep. Or awake.
